I come from a program strong in data. And don't get me wrong- data is paramount when it comes to mapping epidemics and taking early actions.
But I have to admit that prior to walking into hospitals and exchanging openly on the question of opioid abuse, I had trouble getting the full picture. Who were those mothers whom we were helping? What did the care they received (or didn't) look like?
I credit the Jewish Healthcare Foundation's program with Quality Improvement Fellows, of which I was one of 30 this summer, for showing us this complementary side of the headlines.
